Emotional Starbucks Commercial Sheds Light on Transgender Journey Amidst Legal Battle

Starbucks Ad Highlights Changing Attitudes Towards Transgender Rights in India

#BoycottStarbucks was one of the top patterns on Twitter after its most recent mission 'It Starts With Your Name' ignited a contention. The Starbucks promotion was posted on Twitter on May 10 and it has turned into a web sensation. It has been seen north of 7,12,000 times at this point.

Starbucks had begun India activities in 2012 and works north of 300 stores in the country. In FY23, Starbucks' India deals crossed the Rs 1,000-crore deals mark interestingly since it set up for business in the country 10 years prior. At Rs 1,087 crore, it was up 71% from FY22. Last year, it sent off masala chai and channel espresso in India on a pilot premise and furthermore redid its menu to draw in buyers with Indianised From there.
The advertisement portrays an elderly couple waiting for their child, who has undergone a sex change and changed their name to Arpita. The ad highlights the parents' initial discomfort or upset with their child's decision but shows their acceptance and reunion with their transgender daughter when she arrives at the Starbucks store.

The Starbucks ad featuring the elderly couple and their transgender daughter comes at a time when the Supreme Court is hearing petitions related to the legal recognition of same-sex marriage. The timing of the ad may have further contributed to the discussions and debates surrounding it, as it aligns with ongoing conversations about LGBTQ+ rights and acceptance in India.
